AM General today announced that former General Dynamics executive, John C. Ulrich, will join the company Jan. 14 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, reporting directly to AM General President and CEO, Charles M. Hall.
In this newly created position that further strengthens Hall’s executive management team, Ulrich will be responsible for overseeing the company’s Operations, Product Development and Program Management.
Ulrich has more than 35 years of broad based manufacturing and engineering experience and has held a variety of leadership positions. Most recently, he was Chief Operating Officer of General Dynamics, Ordinance & Tactical Systems, headquartered in St. Petersburg, Fla. Prior to that, he was President of General Dynamics European Land Systems based in Vienna, Austria, where he was responsible for operating units in Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. He also served as Senior Vice President General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada, where he oversaw international wheeled vehicle businesses in Canada and Australia.

Ulrich began his career with the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors Corporation in 1977 holding various financial management and staff positions including Controller for the Locomotive and Defense business units. In 2000, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of General Motors’ newly formed defense division where he was in charge of all financial responsibilities for GM defense worldwide sites. He later became Deputy Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer and held additional responsibilities as Chief Executive Officer of MOWAG based in Switzerland.
Ulrich is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
