General Engine Products Assembly Plant
The General Engine Products Assembly Plant is located in Franklin, Ohio, between Dayton and Cincinnati. Production began in this new, modern 92,000-sq. ft. facility in July 2000 with full production rate capability in January 2001. The factory is registered to QS-9000: 1998. QS-9000 is a worldwide standard
that applies within the automotive industry, including specific requirements
for General Motors, Ford and Chrysler. QS9000 requirements exceed those
established in the ISO Standards and are required of all suppliers within
the U.S. based Automotive Industry. The scope of GEP QS-9000 registration
encompasses the assembly and distribution of diesel engines. Det Norske Veritas, a leading international
registrar, originally recommended GEP for registration to QS-9000 in February
2001. QS-9000 registration validates that a Quality Management System
is implemented that improves overall quality, organizational performance
and profitability. The plant quality policy states that "Through leadership, people, teamwork and continuous improvement, General
Engine Products LLC will manufacture products that meet or exceed customer
expectations." Currently the flexible plant manufactures OPTIMIZER 6500™ (6.5L) diesel engines and 6.5/6.2L diesel heads. It is capable of supplying full powertrains (engine/transmission). Engineering and sales support are housed in Livonia, Michigan.
