As part of our commitment to lifecycle support of the vehicles we produce, AM General’s Light Tactical Vehicle Training Center offers training tailored to the needs of our U.S. and international customers. Our facilities in Indiana include a 320-acre off-road training course where students are exposed to hills and slopes of sand, mud, rock, and water that simulate extreme, real-world environments. This unique training course teaches special forces teams and other military operators how to inspect their vehicles properly, negotiate extreme terrain, conduct battle damage assessment in the field, and restore maneuverability through multiple recovery techniques. This increased knowledge has proven to increase higher readiness rates, safety, and survivability.

AM General also has classrooms for instruction and fully equipped technical training bays for hands-on instruction. Through our courses, commercial and military technicians who maintain vehicles and oversee fleets increase their understanding of detailed automotive principals, troubleshooting, service, and repair. They learn to accurately diagnose vehicle systems in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Much of this classroom and technical training also can be provided through Mobile Training Teams, who can be deployed anywhere in the U.S. and around the world (see below). All AM General instructors are experts in their fields, typically with decades of technical knowledge and practical experience – including U.S. military service in many instances.

Based on customer feedback, the proven benefits of AM General training are many:

  • Quicker turnaround times for maintenance and repairs
  • Maintenance cost reduction
  • Improved quality assurance and readiness rates
  • Longer vehicle life
  • Longer component life
  • Improved force protection
  • Longer retention of skills in maintenance and repairs

AM General certificates are awarded for each training course completed. Students may retain the AM General guides, manuals, and other handouts used during the training. All other materials remain the property of AM General.

For those coming to AM General facilities for training, course payments can be made using electronic funds transfer or U.S. Defense Department Form 1556 (Request, Authorization, Agreement, Certification of Training and Reimbursement). MasterCard®, Visa®, American Express®, Discover®, and U.S. Government Credit Cards are also accepted. Costs relating to travel, lodging, meals, medical expenses, entertainment, laundry, rental cars, phone and fax services, and other related expenses are the responsibility of customers.
