The Eisenhower School’s field study to AM General allows students to compare and contrast their observations at traditional defense plants with a commercial producer of defense products, to learn how firms and markets in the defense industry operate, and the challenges the industry faces in satisfying the Department of Defense’s demand for ground tactical vehicles and materials.

This annual visit by the future executive leaders of DoD also included a “ride n’ drive” of HMMWV’s on the Chippewa test track. “We often do not get a chance to drive vehicles due to legal considerations. We greatly appreciate this opportunity as well as AM General’s open and honest discussion about their business” mentioned Mr. Steve Ford, Deputy Director, Industry Studies Program.
