Charles Hall Joins AM General as President and Chief Executive Officer; James Armour to Continue as Chairman
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Jan. 5, 2011) — James A. Armour, AM General chairman and chief executive officer, announced today that Charles M. Hall has joined AM General as president and succeeds Armour as chief executive officer. Armour has led AM General since 1988 and will continue as its chairman.
AM General is best known for its worldwide leadership in the design, production and support of the High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or “Humvee”) that performs logistics, combat support, disaster relief, and other roles in the U.S. armed forces and over 50 foreign militaries. The company also builds specialized vehicles for the commercial auto industry.
Hall most recently served as General Dynamics’ executive vice president and group executive of the company’s Combat Systems group.
Announcing Hall’s new leadership role with AM General, Armour said, “With his 37 years of defense industry experience spanning production, manufacturing and management positions, Charlie is the ideal choice to move into this senior leadership role with AM General. I am excited that he is joining the AM General team and look forward to working closely with him.”
Hall joined General Dynamics in 1973 and served in a variety of increasingly responsible management positions. He was vice president of production and delivery for General Dynamics Land Systems before becoming president of GDLS in 1999. He became executive vice president and group executive of General Dynamics Combat Systems group in 2005. He also served as chairman of the board for General Dynamics European Land Systems.

A native of Michigan, Hall obtained his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and his M.A. in Business Management from Central Michigan University. He is a member of the National Defense Industrial Association and Association of the U.S. Army.
